Neville Confirms Manchester United Wanted to Sign Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the Summer

Manchester United wanted to sign both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the summer transfer window, according to Gary Neville.

David Moyes failed to recruit a number of key targets before the transfer deadline, including Cesc Fabregas and Leighton Baines, but only Marouane Fellaini arrived before deadline day.

According to Neville, there had been even more prominent names on the David Moyes's transfer list including world record signing Gareth Bale, who left Spurs for Real Madrid was among them as was Santiago Bernabeu teammate Ronaldo, a former Old Trafford star.

"In the summer, they wanted players of the quality of Fabregas, Bale, Baines and Ronaldo" said the former Manchester United captain. “They didn’t end up getting them and that was the problem.”

The club are now expected to invest heavily in players in the next transfer window and it would appear that Scotsman Moyes will be the man in command of the transfer kitty as the United board, including legends such as Paul Scholes, have backed the 50-year-old to stay in charge for years to come.

United have been strongly linked in recent weeks with the acquisition of Marco Reus, Luke Shaw and IIkay Gundogan, but the Old Trafford faithful will be devastated that they missed out on Ronaldo and Bale.
